Sempio Jin Ganjang S is one of Korea's most representative naturally fermented soy sauces. The word "Jin" (眞) means "rich" or "deep" in Korean. Made primarily from defatted soybeans and wheat using a traditional fermentation process, it has a deeper colour and more pronounced umami flavour than standard brewed soy sauces. Just as European cheese and wine develop their complex character through fermentation and ageing, Jin Ganjang achieves its layered flavour profile through natural fermentation. It is widely used across a broad range of Korean dishes including stir-fries, braises, grills, and dressings.
Yes, Sempio Jin Ganjang S is suitable for both vegan and vegetarian diets. All ingredients — water, defatted soybeans, high fructose corn syrup, salt, alcohol, wheat, yeast extract, and others — are of plant-based origin, and no animal-derived ingredients are used. Please note, however, that this product does not currently carry an official EU-certified vegan label, so we recommend checking the actual product label before purchase.
Yes, this product contains allergens that must be noted. From the EU's 14 mandatory allergens, this product contains gluten (from wheat) and soybeans. Anyone with an allergy to wheat (gluten) or soya should avoid this product. This product is not gluten-free and is not suitable for individuals with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity.
This product contains alcohol as an ingredient, used in small quantities to maintain the quality of the fermented soy sauce. Those sensitive to alcohol should take note. It also contains sodium benzoate (E211) as a preservative at less than 0.1%, declared by its E-number in accordance with EU Regulation 1169/2011. Regarding halal certification: this product has not received official halal certification and contains alcohol as an ingredient, making it unsuitable for those following a halal diet.
Before opening, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. After opening, refrigerate and use as soon as reasonably possible. The 1.7L large-format bottle is well suited for extended household use and can be used across a wide variety of dishes including stir-fries, braises, soups, dressings, and marinades. Always seal the cap tightly after use and keep the bottle free from contamination.
