Korean Ways to Enjoy · Modos Coreanos de Disfrutar

The most popular ways to enjoy Hyeonmi Nokcha in Korean homes and restaurants — naturally suited to meals or as a moment of calm throughout the day.

Sigsa-cha
식사차
The most common way to enjoy this tea in Korea. A warm cup brewed after lunch or dinner cleanses the palate and cuts through the richness of the meal. It pairs especially well with grilled Korean dishes such as Samgyeopsal (pork belly) or Galbi (short ribs).
Office Tea
사무실 차
A light, low-caffeine alternative to coffee enjoyed by Korean office workers throughout the day. With very little caffeine, it can be sipped even in the late afternoon without disrupting sleep. The individually wrapped tea bags make it easy to keep in a desk drawer and brew whenever needed.
Naengcha
냉차 (찬 현미녹차)
A summer staple in Korean households. Brew 2–3 tea bags in a large jug, then refrigerate and drink throughout the day as a refreshing alternative to water. The toasty, nutty flavour comes through beautifully when chilled, making it a satisfying thirst-quencher.
Sungnyung-style
숭늉처럼
Korea has a long tradition of drinking Sungnyung — a warm drink made by pouring water over the toasted rice crust left in the cooking pot after a meal. The roasted grain aroma of Hyeonmi Nokcha closely resembles Sungnyung, making it a beloved warm finish to a Korean meal.
Pairing with Sushi · Hoe
회·초밥과 함께
This tea is a standard accompaniment at Korean Hoe (raw fish) restaurants and Japanese-style eateries in Korea. Served warm, it cleanses the palate between bites of fish and enhances the overall flavour of the meal.
Hyudae-cha
휴대용 차 (여행·등산)
In Korea, it is common to brew Hyeonmi Nokcha in a thermos and take it along for hiking or travel. Its light, clean flavour makes it easy to drink on the go, and the individually wrapped tea bags are perfectly portable for any adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Sempio Brown Rice Green Tea and how does it differ from regular green tea?

Sempio Brown Rice Green Tea (Hyeonmi Nokcha) is a traditional Korean-style blended tea made from 60% roasted brown rice and 40% green tea. While regular green tea has a fresh, grassy character with a slight bitterness, Hyeonmi Nokcha adds the warmth of toasted brown rice, resulting in a nutty, roasted grain aroma alongside the green tea. The overall taste is smooth and light. It is very similar in style to Japanese Genmaicha (玄米茶), so those already familiar with Genmaicha will find it immediately recognisable. The caffeine content is lower than that of pure green tea, making it an ideal companion to meals or a gentle drink for any time of day.

Is this product suitable for vegans or vegetarians? Is it gluten-free?

Yes, Sempio Brown Rice Green Tea is suitable for both vegans and vegetarians. The ingredients consist solely of brown rice and green tea — no animal-derived ingredients whatsoever. It is also a gluten-free product. However, please note that Sempio produces soy-based products such as soy sauce in the same facilities, so those with a soy allergy are advised to contact Sempio directly to confirm the risk of cross-contamination before purchasing. Halal certification has not been confirmed at this time, so customers requiring halal-certified products should verify this before purchase.

How do I brew Brown Rice Green Tea? What water temperature and steeping time should I use?

For the best flavour, we recommend using water at around 80°C. Bring water to a full boil, then allow it to cool for 1–2 minutes before brewing. Using boiling water (100°C) directly may cause the green tea to release a bitter taste. Place 1 tea bag in a cup, pour 150–200ml of hot water, and steep for 3–5 minutes. Avoid leaving the tea bag in for too long, as this can intensify bitterness. The tea can be enjoyed hot, or allowed to cool completely and served over ice as iced tea. Each pack contains 20 tea bags, yielding approximately 20 cups.

What are the calories and nutritional values of this tea?

In accordance with EU food labelling regulations (EU 1169/2011), the nutritional information for this product is declared per 100ml of brewed beverage. When brewed with water, Brown Rice Green Tea contains virtually zero calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, and all other major nutrients. These figures refer to the brewed liquid as consumed, not to the dry tea bag itself. As a result, Hyeonmi Nokcha can be enjoyed freely without concern about calorie intake.

How should I store the tea after opening? How do I check the best-before date?

Before opening, store Sempio Brown Rice Green Tea in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. After opening, place the remaining tea bags in an airtight container or resealable bag to protect them from moisture and strong odours. Tea readily absorbs surrounding aromas, so avoid storing it next to strongly scented foods. The best-before date is printed on the outside of the packaging. Products exported to Europe are labelled in accordance with EU standards, with the date in DD/MM/YYYY format.
