Korea's Beloved Instant Noodle — Deep, Rich Naturally Fermented Black Bean Sauce
Jjajangmyeon is one of Korea's most beloved noodle dishes — thick wheat noodles topped with a deep, dark sauce made from naturally fermented black bean paste (Chunjang), slow-cooked with onion, cabbage, and potato. In Korea, it is the go-to bowl for moving day, graduation celebrations, and weeknight family dinners. Paldo's Premium Jjajangmyeon uses a retort sauce pouch to recreate the rich, savory depth of a freshly made Korean-Chinese restaurant bowl in just five minutes.

Like a wine tasting note — the deep umami of naturally fermented black bean sauce takes center stage.
The soul of Jjajangmyeon is Chunjang — a naturally fermented black bean paste. Soybeans are cooked, mashed, and combined with nuruk (fermentation starter) and salt, then left to ferment naturally for several months. Over time, the paste deepens to a rich dark brown color and develops a complex umami flavor that balances savory depth with a subtle sweetness.
Paldo's Premium Jjajangmyeon retort sauce pouch contains a rich sauce built on this traditionally fermented Chunjang base, slow-cooked together with onion, cabbage, and potato. Even as an instant noodle, the sauce itself uses authentic naturally fermented bean paste as its foundation.
To draw a European parallel, Chunjang belongs to the same fermented soybean family as miso, but with a darker color and a more pronounced sweetness. Just as Italian balsamic vinegar gains its depth through long aging, Korean Chunjang owes its complexity to the time spent fermenting. If you enjoy sauerkraut or aged cheese, the deep fermented character of Chunjang will feel immediately familiar.

Jjajangmyeon is one of Korea's most iconic noodle dishes — thick wheat noodles tossed in a sauce made from naturally fermented black bean paste (Chunjang). The sauce base is crafted by fermenting black soybeans in the traditional Korean way, developing a deep, complex umami flavor much like aged European cheese or balsamic vinegar gains its character through fermentation and time. The taste is savory and rich with a gentle sweetness, rounded out by vegetables such as onion, cabbage, and potato. Paldo's Premium Jjajangmyeon brings this traditional flavor to you in a convenient premium instant format.
Yes — please review the allergen information carefully. Under EU Regulation 1169/2011, this product contains gluten (wheat flour — present in both the noodles and the black bean sauce) and soybeans. It is therefore not suitable for individuals with gluten intolerance, coeliac disease, or soy allergy. In addition, the Korean domestic product label indicates that it is manufactured in a facility that also handles eggs, milk, buckwheat, peanuts, crab, shrimp, peach, tomato, chicken, squid, and shellfish, meaning there may be a risk of cross-contamination. If you have a serious allergy, please check the physical EU label or contact the retailer before purchasing.
Suitability for vegans or vegetarians cannot be confirmed at this time. The seasoning powder in the sauce contains disodium inosinate (E635), which is typically derived from meat or fish. Without official confirmation from the manufacturer, this product cannot be labeled as vegan or vegetarian-friendly. Halal certification has also not been verified. If you follow a vegan, vegetarian, or halal diet, we recommend contacting the manufacturer (Paldo) or the importer directly before purchasing.
Preparation is straightforward. Bring 550ml of water to a boil in a pot, add the noodles, and cook for 4–5 minutes. Drain the noodles, transfer to a bowl, and pour the enclosed black bean sauce packet over the top — then mix well to combine. For a more complete meal, try topping with a soft-boiled egg, cucumber slices, or roasted vegetables. Please note that this product contains wheat flour noodles and is not suitable for a gluten-free diet.
Paldo Premium Jjajangmyeon should be stored at room temperature, in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Refrigeration is not required prior to opening. For the exact best-before date, please refer to the date printed on the product packaging. Once opened, cook and consume immediately. Nutritional values are based on the EU export label; please treat the information on the physical EU packaging as the definitive reference.
