Jongga Pure Rice Tteokguk Tteok 500g · Refrigerated

Authentic Korean Food · Authentic Korean Tteok

Tteokguk Tteok is a traditional Korean rice cake made from rice, shaped into thin coin-like slices cut from a long cylindrical garae-tteok. In Korea, it is the essential ingredient in Tteokguk (Korean rice cake soup), traditionally enjoyed with family on Seollal (Lunar New Year) morning to welcome the new year. Its chewy and tender texture is similar to Italian gnocchi, but made entirely from rice — lighter and more delicately flavoured. Jongga is one of Korea's most trusted traditional food brands, and dotAsia directly imports their fresh refrigerated Tteok made from carefully selected Korean rice.

Korean Ways to Enjoy · Recetas Coreanas

Seven classic Korean dishes made with Tteokguk Tteok, as enjoyed in Korean homes. Experience the authentic flavours of Korea for yourself.

Tteokguk
떡국
The most iconic Korean Lunar New Year dish, shared by the whole family on Seollal morning. Tteokguk Tteok is simmered in a clear broth made from beef, anchovy, or bone stock, then topped with egg garnish, dried seaweed, and spring onion. In Korea, eating a bowl of Tteokguk symbolises gaining a year of age — making it the most cherished first meal of the new year.
Tteokmanduguk
떡만두국
A hearty one-bowl dish combining Tteokguk with Korean-style Mandu (dumplings) in the same broth. The chewy rice cakes and flavourful dumpling filling complement each other perfectly, making this a warming, nourishing meal popular in Korean homes during the cold winter months. A more filling alternative to plain Tteokguk.
Tteokbokki
떡볶이
Korea's most beloved street food. While traditionally made with cylindrical garae-tteok, using Tteokguk Tteok allows the spicy-sweet sauce to coat each piece more thoroughly for a deeper flavour. Simmered in a sauce of Gochujang, soy sauce, and sugar, with fish cake, boiled eggs, and spring onion.
Gungjung Tteokbokki
궁중떡볶이
A non-spicy royal court-style Tteokbokki enjoyed in the Joseon Dynasty palace. Tteokguk Tteok is stir-fried with beef, carrot, shiitake mushroom, and spinach in a seasoning of soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. A mild and nutty dish that is equally suitable for those who prefer less heat and for children.
Rabokki
라볶이
A Korean fusion dish combining Ramyeon (instant noodles) and Tteokbokki. Cooking Ramyeon noodles and Tteokguk Tteok together in the Tteokbokki sauce creates a satisfying combination of chewy rice cakes and springy noodles — a signature menu item at Korean snack bars (bunsikjeom). One of the most popular snacks among Korean students.
Tteok Kkochi
떡꼬치
A Korean street snack made by threading Tteokguk Tteok onto skewers, lightly grilling them, and brushing with a spicy-sweet Gochujang glaze. The result is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. A popular item at Korean school-side snack stalls, equally enjoyable as a quick snack or a light appetiser.
Tteok Jjim
떡찜
A traditional Korean home-cooked dish of Tteokguk Tteok braised together with galbi (short ribs), glass noodles, and assorted vegetables in a soy-based sauce. The rice cakes absorb the rich braising liquid for a deep, full-bodied flavour. In Korea, this is a special-occasion dish lovingly prepared for holidays and family gatherings.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Tteokguk Tteok? What does it taste and feel like?

Tteokguk Tteok is a type of traditional Korean rice cake made from ground rice dough, sliced into thin white coin shapes. The flavour itself is very mild and neutral, readily absorbing the taste of whatever broth it is cooked in. The texture is chewy and tender with a slight springiness — similar to Italian gnocchi. Unlike wheat-based pasta, it is made from 100% rice, making it lighter and easier to digest. It is most commonly used in Tteokguk (Korean rice cake soup) and is an iconic dish associated with Seollal (Korean Lunar New Year).

Is this product suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yes, this product is suitable for both vegans and vegetarians. The ingredients consist solely of rice (99%), refined salt (0.5%), and alcohol (0.5%), with no animal-derived ingredients whatsoever. Please note that a small amount of alcohol (0.5%) is added as a preservative; those who strictly avoid alcohol should take this into account. When preparing Tteokguk, using a vegetable-based stock (e.g. kombu, shiitake mushroom) makes it a fully vegan dish.

Is this product gluten-free? Is it safe for people with a wheat allergy?

The ingredients of this product (rice, refined salt, alcohol) contain no wheat or gluten-containing materials. On the basis of its ingredients, it can therefore be considered gluten-free. However, no official gluten-free certification mark has been confirmed for this product. If you have coeliac disease or a severe wheat allergy, we recommend contacting the manufacturer (Jongga/Daesang) or the EU importer directly to verify whether the product is produced on a shared line with gluten-containing products, in accordance with EU Regulation 828/2014.

Does this product contain alcohol? Is it halal-certified?

Yes, this product contains a small amount of alcohol (0.5%) used as a preservative. It is therefore not an alcohol-free product. Regarding halal certification, no official halal certification has been confirmed for this product, and the presence of alcohol may mean it does not meet halal certification standards. Those who strictly follow a halal diet should be aware of this before purchasing.

How should this product be stored, and how long can it be kept?

This is a refrigerated product and must be stored in the refrigerator (0–10°C) at all times. Before opening, it can be kept refrigerated until the best-before date indicated on the packaging. Once opened, reseal and refrigerate, and use as soon as possible. For longer storage, the product can also be frozen and will keep for approximately 1–2 months. If frozen, thaw in cold water for 10–15 minutes before cooking, or add directly to boiling broth without thawing.
