Sesame oil is used in a wide variety of ways in Korean cuisine. The most common applications are: ① Namul (seasoned vegetables) — add a small amount along with salt and soy sauce when tossing blanched vegetables such as spinach or bean sprouts for a nutty aroma. ② Bibimbap finishing — drizzle one or two drops over a completed bowl of Bibimbap to enhance the flavour. ③ Soup and stew finishing — add a small amount at the end of soups such as Doenjang Jjigae (soybean paste stew) or Miyeok-guk (seaweed soup). ④ Sauce and dressing — mix with soy sauce, garlic, or Gochujang to create dipping sauces or dressings. Because sesame oil has a low smoke point, it is best used as a finishing oil rather than for high-heat cooking.
After opening, store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, or refrigerate for an extended shelf life. Refrigeration may cause the oil to turn slightly cloudy — this is a natural occurrence and the oil will return to its clear state once brought back to room temperature. For the exact best-before date, refer to the date printed on the product label. Once opened, it is recommended to use the oil as soon as possible. Always close the cap tightly after use to prevent oxidation.
