Title

Bamboo Tree Rice Paper 22cm 400g

Authentic Vietnamese · Bánh Tráng

Known in Vietnam as "Bánh Tráng," rice paper is a thin, round sheet made from tapioca starch and rice flour. In Vietnamese households, it is the most essential ingredient for making fresh Gỏi Cuốn (fresh spring rolls) and crispy Chả Giò (fried spring rolls). The 22cm size is ideal for making bite-sized rolls, and soaking in warm water for just a few seconds makes it pliable and easy for anyone to use.

Rice paper itself has an almost neutral, near-tasteless character. Its appeal lies in how it lets the flavours of the wrapped fillings — herbs, shrimp, pork, vegetables — and dipping sauces shine through completely.

Vietnamese-Style Uses · Estilo Vietnamita

The most popular ways to enjoy Bánh Tráng (rice paper) in Vietnamese households — experience the authentic flavours of Vietnam just as they are.

Gỏi Cuốn
gỏi cuốn
Vietnam's iconic fresh spring roll. Soak the rice paper in warm water for 3–5 seconds until pliable, then layer with boiled shrimp, pork, rice vermicelli (bún), lettuce, mint, and coriander, and roll tightly. Served with hoisin sauce or a peanut dipping sauce, it is a light and refreshing warm-weather favourite.
Chả Giò
chả giò
The crispy fried spring roll of southern Vietnam. Minced pork, wood ear mushrooms, carrots, and glass noodles are rolled tightly in rice paper and deep-fried until golden. The 22cm size is perfectly suited for making bite-sized Chả Giò.
Bò Bía
bò bía
A Vietnamese-style street food mini roll. Softened rice paper is filled with Chinese sausage (lap cheong), stir-fried jicama (or turnip), shrimp, and egg, then rolled up. Dipped in hoisin sauce topped with crushed peanuts and chilli, it makes a casual and satisfying snack.
Bì Cuốn
bì cuốn
A roll made with finely shredded pork and toasted rice powder (thính), wrapped in rice paper together with lettuce and fresh herbs. Dipped in nước chấm (Vietnamese fish sauce dipping sauce), it is a fragrant and nutty home-style dish.
Bánh Tráng Cuốn Thịt Heo
bánh tráng cuốn thịt heo
A central Vietnamese (Da Nang) style pork belly roll. Thinly sliced boiled pork belly, rice vermicelli, cucumber, pineapple, green mango, and an abundance of fresh herbs are placed on rice paper and rolled at the table. Enjoyed with a rich shrimp paste sauce (mắm nêm).
Nem Nướng Cuốn
nem nướng cuốn
Chargrilled Vietnamese pork sausage (nem nướng) rolled in rice paper with fresh vegetables, herbs, and crispy fried rice vermicelli. Paired with a rich peanut-based dipping sauce, this roll delivers the authentic flavours of southern Vietnamese cuisine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What exactly is rice paper? How is it different from a regular flour wrap?

Rice paper is a thin, semi-transparent sheet widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine. This product (Bamboo Tree 22cm) is made only from tapioca starch, water, rice flour (10%), and salt, and contains absolutely no wheat flour. Unlike regular wheat tortillas or spring roll wrappers, it is gluten-free. When dry it is hard and opaque, but once soaked in water it becomes flexible and transparent. When deep-fried, it forms a much lighter and crispier, glass-like shell compared to wheat-based dough — this is one of its most distinctive qualities.

Is this product suitable for a Vegan and Gluten-Free diet?

Yes, this product is fully suitable for Vegan and Vegetarian diets. The ingredients consist only of tapioca starch, water, rice flour (10%), and salt, with no animal-derived ingredients whatsoever. It also contains no gluten-containing ingredients, making it suitable for a gluten-free diet. However, one important note: the Bamboo Tree 22cm/400g rice paper range includes two SKUs. This product (EAN 8936007910030) is the gluten-free version with tapioca starch as the main ingredient, while the other SKU (EAN 8936007910023) contains 60% rice flour plus wheat flour and therefore contains gluten. Please be sure to check the EAN barcode on the packaging before purchasing.

How do I use this rice paper? Is there a difference between frying use and fresh use?

This product is specifically labelled "For Spring Roll Frying" and is optimised for high-temperature deep-frying. The method is simple: fill a wide bowl with lukewarm water, soak the rice paper for 5–8 seconds until just pliable, then remove. Place your desired filling (vegetables, meat, tofu, etc.) on top, roll tightly, and deep-fry in oil at 170–180°C. The wrapper turns golden and becomes very crispy when fried. Please note that this product has a different composition from rice paper intended for fresh use, such as Vietnamese-style fresh rolls (Gỏi Cuốn), so we recommend using this product for fried preparations.

How should I store this product? What about storage after opening?

Before opening, store in a cool, dry place (room temperature) away from direct sunlight. Rice paper is highly sensitive to moisture — if it comes into contact with humidity, the sheets can stick together or become misshapen. After opening, place the remaining product in a resealable zip-lock bag or airtight container and store in a dry location. Refrigeration is not recommended as it can introduce moisture. The 400g package contains a generous quantity, making it well-suited for use across multiple occasions.

What dishes can I make with this rice paper? Can it be used beyond Vietnamese recipes?

This product is best suited for making fried spring rolls, but its range of uses is very broad. Fill with vegetables (carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts), tofu, glass noodles, and mushrooms for vegan spring rolls, or go for the classic version with shrimp or pork. Because tapioca starch is the main ingredient, the wrapper becomes far lighter and more transparently crispy when fried compared to wheat-based spring roll wrappers — this is the product's greatest strength. Serve with sweet chilli sauce, a soy and vinegar dipping sauce, or sriracha for a perfect party appetiser or light meal.
