Rice paper is a thin, semi-transparent sheet widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine. This product (Bamboo Tree 22cm) is made only from tapioca starch, water, rice flour (10%), and salt, and contains absolutely no wheat flour. Unlike regular wheat tortillas or spring roll wrappers, it is gluten-free. When dry it is hard and opaque, but once soaked in water it becomes flexible and transparent. When deep-fried, it forms a much lighter and crispier, glass-like shell compared to wheat-based dough — this is one of its most distinctive qualities.
Yes, this product is fully suitable for Vegan and Vegetarian diets. The ingredients consist only of tapioca starch, water, rice flour (10%), and salt, with no animal-derived ingredients whatsoever. It also contains no gluten-containing ingredients, making it suitable for a gluten-free diet. However, one important note: the Bamboo Tree 22cm/400g rice paper range includes two SKUs. This product (EAN 8936007910030) is the gluten-free version with tapioca starch as the main ingredient, while the other SKU (EAN 8936007910023) contains 60% rice flour plus wheat flour and therefore contains gluten. Please be sure to check the EAN barcode on the packaging before purchasing.
This product is specifically labelled "For Spring Roll Frying" and is optimised for high-temperature deep-frying. The method is simple: fill a wide bowl with lukewarm water, soak the rice paper for 5–8 seconds until just pliable, then remove. Place your desired filling (vegetables, meat, tofu, etc.) on top, roll tightly, and deep-fry in oil at 170–180°C. The wrapper turns golden and becomes very crispy when fried. Please note that this product has a different composition from rice paper intended for fresh use, such as Vietnamese-style fresh rolls (Gỏi Cuốn), so we recommend using this product for fried preparations.
Before opening, store in a cool, dry place (room temperature) away from direct sunlight. Rice paper is highly sensitive to moisture — if it comes into contact with humidity, the sheets can stick together or become misshapen. After opening, place the remaining product in a resealable zip-lock bag or airtight container and store in a dry location. Refrigeration is not recommended as it can introduce moisture. The 400g package contains a generous quantity, making it well-suited for use across multiple occasions.
This product is best suited for making fried spring rolls, but its range of uses is very broad. Fill with vegetables (carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts), tofu, glass noodles, and mushrooms for vegan spring rolls, or go for the classic version with shrimp or pork. Because tapioca starch is the main ingredient, the wrapper becomes far lighter and more transparently crispy when fried compared to wheat-based spring roll wrappers — this is the product's greatest strength. Serve with sweet chilli sauce, a soy and vinegar dipping sauce, or sriracha for a perfect party appetiser or light meal.
