Beksul Buchimgaru (Beksul Pancake Mix) is a specially blended flour mix designed for making traditional Korean savory pancakes (jeon / buchimgae). Unlike plain wheat flour, it comes pre-mixed with seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper, as well as baking powder, glutinous rice flour, starch, and xanthan gum — so all you need to do is add water and your batter is ready. Think of it like a European pancake mix, but formulated specifically for savory Korean-style pancakes rather than sweet desserts. The addition of glutinous rice flour gives the finished pancake a chewier, more tender texture compared to a plain flour batter.

Beksul Buchimgaru can be used to make a wide variety of traditional Korean savory pancakes. The most popular are Pajeon (spring onion pancake) and Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) — beloved Korean street foods and home-cooked staples. You can also make Gamja-jeon (potato pancake), Hobak-jeon (zucchini pancake), and Kimchi-jeon (Kimchi pancake). The method is simple: mix Buchimgaru with cold water at a ratio of approximately 1:1.3 to form a batter, add your chosen ingredients (spring onion, seafood, vegetables, etc.), and pan-fry in a generously oiled pan. Serve with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce and vinegar — the traditional Korean way.
Before opening, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight at room temperature. After opening, exposure to air and moisture can cause the powder to clump or deteriorate, so transfer it to an airtight container or resealable bag and store in a cool, dry place, using it as soon as possible. Always check the date printed on the product packaging for the exact best-before date. As this is a large 1kg format, proper airtight storage is especially important if you do not use the entire contents at once.
