How to Enjoy Korean-Style · Recetas Coreanas

Six ways to enjoy Gimmari just like at a Korean Bunsik restaurant. Great on its own, but pairing it with Tteokbokki or Ramyeon makes it a truly authentic Korean experience.

Tteokbokki Combo
떡볶이 + 김말이
The most classic pairing in Korean Bunsik culture. Dip the crispy Gimmari into the spicy-sweet Tteokbokki sauce and the combination of crunch and bold seasoning captures the very essence of Korean street food. A nostalgic snack pairing for generations of Korean students.
Rabokki
라볶이
Rabokki is a Korean spicy noodle dish combining Ramyeon and Tteokbokki. Add Gimmari on the side to complete a full Bunsik restaurant spread. The chewy noodles, soft rice cakes, and crispy Gimmari create an irresistible trio of textures.
Bunsik Platter
분식 모듬
The classic spread at a Korean Bunsik restaurant. Tteokbokki, Sundae (Korean blood sausage), assorted fritters (squid, sweet potato, Gimmari), and Eomuk (fish cake) are served together on one plate to share with family and friends. Gimmari is an essential part of this platter.
Ramyeon Topping
라면 토핑
When cooking Korean instant noodles such as Shin Ramyeon or Jin Ramyeon, place freshly heated Gimmari on top just before serving. The Gimmari absorbs a little of the broth, becoming tender on the outside while staying chewy inside — a delightful contrast of textures.
Soy-Vinegar Dip
간장초 디핑
The most common way to enjoy fried snacks in Korean households. Mix equal parts soy sauce and vinegar with finely chopped onion to make a simple dipping sauce. The acidity cuts through the richness of the fried coating, making it impossible to stop at just one.
Anju (Beer Snack)
맥주 안주
Fried snacks are hugely popular as Anju (food enjoyed with drinks) in Korea. Crispy air-fried Gimmari paired with a cold beer is the lighter Korean equivalent of the famous "Chimaek" (chicken + beer) combo — sometimes called "Twi-maek" (fritters + beer).

Cooking Guide · Cooking Guide

Air Fryer (Most Recommended · Recomendado)
Preheat to 180°C, then cook the frozen Gimmari for 8–10 minutes. Flip once halfway through for an even, all-round crispiness. No added oil needed — the natural crunch comes through perfectly.
Pan Frying (Sartén)
Heat cooking oil to 170°C, then add the frozen Gimmari and fry for 3–4 minutes until golden brown. Place on kitchen paper to drain excess oil and serve while warm.
Oven (Horno)
Bake in an oven preheated to 200°C for 12–15 minutes. Place on baking paper with a little space between each piece so all sides crisp up evenly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What exactly is Gimmari (seaweed roll fritter)?

Gimmari is a popular Korean street food snack made by wrapping transparent glass noodles (made from sweet potato or potato starch) and vegetables such as carrot and garlic chives in a thin sheet of dried seaweed (gim), then deep-frying until crispy. The outside has a thin, crunchy texture thanks to the seaweed, while the inside is soft and chewy. It is a common snack found at Korean Bunsik restaurants and convenience stores. While it looks similar to a European spring roll, the filling and flavour are distinctly different. Sawongwon Gimmari is a frozen product that can be easily prepared in an air fryer or oven.

What allergens does this product contain?

Sawongwon Gimmari contains the following 3 allergens from the EU mandatory 14 major allergens list (Regulation 1169/2011): ① Gluten-containing cereals (including wheat flour), ② Soybean, ③ Sesame. People with gluten intolerance (coeliac disease) or allergies to wheat, soy, or sesame should avoid this product. Additionally, the possibility of trace amounts of sulphites being present during the manufacturing process cannot be excluded; those sensitive to sulphites are advised to check with the manufacturer before purchasing.

Is this product suitable for vegans or vegetarians?

The vegan and vegetarian suitability of this product has not been officially confirmed. The ingredient list includes only plant-based ingredients such as glass noodles, vegetables (carrot and garlic chives), seaweed, brewed soy sauce, and sesame oil; however, the manufacturer has not officially confirmed the absence of cross-contamination risks during the soy sauce brewing process or at the production facility. Those following a strict vegan or vegetarian diet are therefore advised to contact the manufacturer (Sawongwon) directly before purchasing.

What is the best way to cook this product?

For the crispiest result, an air fryer is recommended. Cook straight from frozen at 180°C for 12–15 minutes, flipping once halfway through. If using an oven, cook at 200°C for 15–18 minutes. For deep frying, cook in oil at 170–180°C for 3–4 minutes. Microwave cooking is not recommended as it makes the exterior soggy. After cooking, serve with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce mixed with a little sugar and sesame oil for the closest taste to the Korean original. Store any remaining product in the freezer and do not refreeze once cooked.

Is this product Halal or Kosher certified?

Sawongwon Gimmari does not currently hold Halal certification, and Kosher certification information has not been confirmed. This product is not recommended for those strictly following a Halal or Kosher diet. If you have questions regarding dietary requirements, please contact the manufacturer directly before purchasing.
